Philadelphia 76ers' Joel Embiid to undergo surgery on right foot

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid requires a second surgery on his right foot which has put his 2015-16 NBA season in jeopardy.

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid could miss the entire 2015-16 season as he requires surgery on his right foot.

The 21-year-old missed his entire rookie season as he sustained a stress fracture of his right foot.

Embiid made slow progress in his recovery, and then suffered a setback, which has now put his second season in the NBA in jeopardy.

"A collective decision has been made that the best approach to promote full healing would be to proceed with a bone graft of the fracture site," 76ers president and general manager Sam Hinkie said in a statement.

"We anticipate the procedure will take place in the next 7-10 days and result in Joel missing the upcoming season."

Embiid was selected by the 76ers as the third-overall pick in the 2014 Draft.
