Cuba's Yasnier Toledo has battled past China's Liu Qiang in the Olympic lightweight class.
Neither man really found their range in the first round, which ended with the Cuban 3-2 in front.
The fight was turning out to be a tactical chess match as both fighters probed for a suitable opening.
Liu landed the cleanest shot of the contest with a nice overhand right, but Toledo responded well and landed to the body with a great right hook.
The Cuban led by two heading into the decided and continued to work the body as he sought to put the contest to bed.
However, Liu landed once again with the right hand to keep Toledo on his toes until the end. The Chinese then produced a quick combination as the seconds ticked away.
Despite some nice work in the last round, the judges did not feel that he had done enough and gave the Cuban a 14-10 decision.
