Promoter Frank Warren has revealed that he has been approached by the representatives of Gennady Golovkin regarding a unification clash with Billy Joe Saunders.
Earlier this month, Saunders claimed the WBO middleweight title with a points victory over Andy Lee, leaving open the possibility of a showdown with WBA and IBF title holder Golovkin, who is looking to end 2016 with all four belts in the 160lbs division.
Warren has said that discussions with Saunders will take place in the New Year, but admits that the offer made by K2 is "certainly worth considering".
On his official website, Warren said: "We have been in communication with Gennady Golovkin's people, who have approached us with a firm offer of a unification fight with Triple G.
"I know Billy Joe has intimated he may not be quite ready for this but money talks louder than anything in boxing and such are the sums involved it is one certainly worth considering.
"We will be sitting down to talk about the future with Billy Joe once he has enjoyed his break. He has some really tasty options out there and whatever happens we will come up with something really special."
WBC champion Saul Alvarez has been mandated to face Golovkin during the second half of 2016.
