Matthew Macklin hopes for another title shot

Matthew Macklin is eyeing a third world title shot, but not before a convincing win on his Las Vegas debut.

Matthew Macklin is hoping that a good performance in his next fight will land him another shot at a world title.

The Irish middleweight will fight on the undercard of the Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Macklin has lost twice in title fights before, losing a close decision to German Felix Sturm before being stopped by Martinez back in March.

The 30-year-old is hoping that a convincing win over Canadian fighter Joachin Alcine will put him back in the limelight to fight the winner of the main event.

"My fight with Martinez was an entertaining one," said Macklin. "It was a good fight and very close.

"With a good performance here I think it will land me another world title shot.

"I think that's probably a lot of the reason they've got me on this card - they are laying down the next opponent."

It will be the first time Macklin has fought in Las Vegas and he is looking forward to what will be a big night of middleweight boxing.

He continued: "I'm really looking forward to fighting in Vegas. I've been to fights there before.

"I was in Ricky Hatton's entourage when he fought there in 2007.

"It's nice that I am finally getting there myself, and on such a big card."

The fight will take place at the Thomas and Mack Centre tomorrow night.
