George Groves retains WBA title after points win over Chris Eubank Jr

George Groves retains his WBA super-middleweight world title and books a spot in the World Boxing Super Series final after defeating Chris Eubank Jr on points.

George Groves has defeated Chris Eubank Jr on points to retain his WBA super-middleweight world title and book a spot in the World Boxing Super Series final.

In front of a packed Manchester Arena, the tournament's number one seed dominated the first half of the bout and held on during the frenetic final rounds to take the unanimous decision.

Groves, the bigger of the two fighters, boasted superior experience and skill throughout Saturday night's encounter, which saw the judges score 117-112, 116-112, 115-113 in his favour.

Even during a chaotic finish, which saw Groves negotiate the 12th round with a suspected dislocated shoulder, the Londoner maintained his poise to secure a bout against England's Callum Smith or Jurgen Brahmer of Germany in June's final.

The 29-year-old, who went to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment on his left shoulder after the bout, now boasts a record of 28 wins from 31 fights after inflicting the second defeat of Eubank Jr's 28-fight career.
