Alastair Cook: 'England will make history with Ashes win'

Alastair Cook believes that there is an opportunity for England players to become heroes ahead of the crucial fourth Test at Trent Bridge.

Alastair Cook has claimed that England can go down in history by winning The Ashes on the eve of the fourth Test at Trent Bridge.

Australia started the series as firm favourites after a whitewash win in the 2013-14 campaign, but Cook believes that there is a chance for his players to become heroes as they search for the win which would clinch the urn.

"There's an opportunity for someone to really make a name for themselves in the history of English cricket," he told reporters in Nottingham on Wednesday.

"No-one gave us a chance at the beginning of the series, everyone was writing us off. That's a dangerous thing to do.

"If someone scores a really big hundred or takes six or seven wickets to help England win the game their name will be etched in history forever."

Cook also revealed on Wednesday that Mark Wood is likely to replace the injured James Anderson.
