England wicketkeeper Matt Prior hopeful of being fit for first Ashes Test

England wicketkeeper Matt Prior is hopeful over his fitness for the first Ashes Test following a calf injury.

England wicketkeeper Matt Prior has suggested that he could be fit for the first Ashes Test against Australia following a calf injury.

The 31-year-old is a doubt for the opening Test due to the problem he suffered last week, but Prior has admitted that "signs are good".

"Rehab on the injury is going well and it's improving every day," Prior told a live webchat on The Telegraph website. "I was even allowed to leave the trusty ice machine to hit some balls in the nets today. Signs are good so fingers well and truly crossed."

The first Test begins in Brisbane on November 21.
