Joe Denly says he was prepared for the disappointment of not being involved in the World Cup.
The Kent captain was named in last month's provisional 15 for the tournament – which starts next week – but saw his hopes dashed last week when he failed to make the cut and saw Hampshire spinner Liam Dawson get the nod.
However, speaking after the opening day of the Specsavers County Championship Division One match at Essex, Denly said he was looking forward to proving himself.
He said: "Before I got the call I knew that this was an avenue they could take and I was fully prepared for it. I think Liam Dawson is a fantastic cricketer and deserves his selection.
"That England white-ball team is a special team and the country should be excited about their chances at the World Cup.
"I would have liked to play more cricket but it has been great to be involved in the IPL and with England."
The Ashes are a little more than three months away and Denly is hoping to make the right impression in a bid to get his chance against Australia.
The 33-year-old added: "There is no point moping around, I have to get on with it now and put on some performances for Kent.
"There is a lot of cricket between now and the Ashes so my focus is trying to perform to Kent and the Ashes selection will take care of itself."
