Kevin Pietersen is ruled out of England's fifth ODI against India with a fractured thumb.

England's Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of today's fifth one-day international against India due to injury.

Pietersen sustained a fractured left thumb while fielding during Sunday's loss in Mumbai.

Ian Bell will stand in for Pietersen while Graeme Swann replaces Scott Borthwick.

England have won the toss and opted to bowl as they attempt to avoid a 5-0 whitewash.

The visitors' stay concludes with a Twenty20 match on Saturday.
