England's Jonny Bairstow has claimed that it feels "nice" to prove his doubters wrong following a record-breaking display against Bangladesh in Chittagong.
The 27-year-old became the highest wicket-keeper batsman Test scorer in history by clocking 99 runs, which boosted his tally to 1,091 in the calendar year.
The total surpassed the previous record held by Andy Flower, who racked up 1,045 for Zimbabwe in 2000.
"It's a pretty amazing feeling," The Mirror quotes Bairstow as saying. "It is something that if you go back maybe two years there are people writing you off to never play Test cricket again.
"To then come back and prove a few people wrong with the way that I've been playing is nice. But at the same time, there's still a lot of cricket to play this year, and hopefully I can carry on in the same vein with the bat and the gloves."
England will get the second Test against Bangladesh underway tomorrow with a 1-0 lead in the series.
