Stuart Broad says sorry for England's "poor" performance over their first five-day Test, which ended in defeat, against India.

England bowler Stuart Broad has apologised to supporters following his side's first Test defeat to India.

The hosts wrapped up the opening Test in Ahmedabad today after securing the 77 runs needed to win the contest after lunch.

The visitors struggled to handle India's spin throughout the five-day match and many have called for tactical changes for the remainder of the series.

Broad tweeted: "India outplayed us. A few positives but on the whole poor so sorry for that. Onwards and upwards."

India take their 1-0 lead into the second Test, which begins on Friday in Mumbai.
