Paul Collingwood has shelved plans to retire by signing a new contract with Durham.
The 38-year-old had recently hinted that the current County Championship campaign would be his last as a professional cricketer.
However, the former England international has now decided to extend his deal at Chester-le-Street by a further 12 months.
"You're a long time retired and I've still got ambitions to take this team forward," he told the county's official website. "It really is a special group of guys to be involved with and I don't want to give that up too early."
Collingwood, who made 68 Test appearances, has scored 13,759 first-class runs for Durham.
