England captain Alastair Cook hailed his side's performance as they secured a 2-0 series win over New Zealand after recording a 247-run victory in the second Test.

The Three Lions wrapped up the win on day five of the match as spinner Graeme Swann took six wickets to bowl the Black Caps out for 220 in their second innings.

The 28-year-old singled out Swann and centurion Joe Root for special praise following the victory.

Cook told Sky Sports News: "I thought we put in a really good performance here. I think from one to 11 we really put our hand up in this game.

"It's great for Root to get a hundred, credit to New Zealand's bowlers they put pressure on us on that first day. As for Swanny, he's done it for a few years for us now and to get 10 wickets here is a great effort.

"It's good momentum to have for the Ashes, winning these two games, but when we get there it won't mean too much."

Cook scored his 25th Test match century in the win at Headingley, his seventh ton as skipper.
