Simon Kerrigan to stay in England this winter

Simon Kerrigan will train with Lancashire coaches in the UK, rather than join the England Performance Programme squad in Australia.

Lancashire spinner Simon Kerrigan will remain at home this winter rather than travel out with the England Performance Programme Squad to Australia.

The ECB announced that Kerrigan, who struggled with his introduction to Test cricket in the final Ashes encounter of the summer, will now train at Old Trafford with the help of his county coaches, but he will have his winter programme drawn up by England spin bowling coach Peter Such.

ECB performance director David Parsons revealed that after discussion with the player and Lancashire, it was decided that "his career development will be best served by remaining in the UK in the pre-Christmas period".

Kerrigan still remains part of the programme and the spinner will be in contention for a place on the England Lions tour to Sri Lanka in the early part of next year.
