Ben Stokes stars as England beat New Zealand

Ben Stokes takes two wickets and hits an unbeaten half-century as England defeat New Zealand in the second one-day international in Tauranga.

Ben Stokes produced a match-winning performance as England registered a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the second one-day international in Tauranga.

Stokes has spent much of the last five months out of the England setup after an incident outside of a Bristol nightclub in September, but the all-rounder contributed with bat and ball to help his side level the series with the Black Caps.

Martin Guptill and Mitchell Santner made 50 and 63 respectively as New Zealand were bowled out for 223 with two balls to spare, with Stokes, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes all picking up two wickets apiece.

Despite losing two wickets inside the first 10 overs, England were always in control with their reply, with Jonny Bairstow (37) laying the foundations for Eoin Morgan, Stokes and Jos Buttler to take over later in the innings.

Morgan hit 62 from 63 deliveries while Buttler got England over the line with 36 from 20 balls, but Stokes's unbeaten knock of 63 from 74 balls could prove to be most valuable to England going forward into the third fixture between the teams on Saturday.
