Alex Wakely signs new Northamptonshire deal

Batsman Alex Wakely signs a fresh one-year contract with County Championship side Northamptonshire.

Northamptonshire's team captain Alex Wakely has committed his future to the club by agreeing to terms on a new one-year contract.

The 26-year-old's previous deal expired at the end of the most recent campaign, but he has now opted to continue his career at the County Cricket Ground.

"I am very happy to be extending my contract with Northants. I really like this club and have been here all my career, so I am Northants through and through," he told the club's official website. "Looking ahead, I can see no reason why the team cannot push for further honours and start to win trophies again."

Meanwhile, head coach David Ripley added: "I see exciting times ahead for Alex. He has shown his tactical awareness and leadership skills in our 2013 T20 win and now has the chance to manage and lead the dressing room on a daily basis."

Batsman Wakely missed the entire 2014 season with an Achilles injury.
