Alex Mellor has agreed a 12-month contract with County Championship side Warwickshire.
The 24-year-old wicketkeeper has earned the deal following a recent stint with the Edgbaston-based outfit's second team.
"Alex has impressed with bat and gloves during his time with the second team and we hope that he can develop in to a top class keeper-batsman by working closely with Tony Frost and our coaching team at Edgbaston," director of cricket Dougie Brown said in a statement.
Former Staffordshire University student Mellor added: "I have had a fantastic welcome from the coaching team and players since joining the Bears and I'm very excited to be joining such a great club.
"While the current season is coming to a close, I can't wait to get started again in November and hopefully developing my game further."
Mellor has scored 156 runs at an average of 39 from his five outings for the second XI this term.
