South Africa have put themselves in a strong position after the first day of the second Test against New Zealand by scoring 325-4 in their first innings.
The home side have ended the day with six wickets remaining after Hashim Amla secured a century to give South Africa control as they try to add to their opening Test victory.
New Zealand struggled to handle Amla, who grabbed 106 runs from 211 balls and remains unbeaten, while Graeme Smith surpassed a half-century during his time at the crease.
Faf du Plessis added to South Africa's run-rate by clinching 69 by the end of the evening session and will continue to extend his side's lead tomorrow.
New Zealand's bowlers were frustrated on the pitch and reached stumps with Doug Bracewell claiming two wickets, while Neil Wagner and Jeetan Patel grabbed one apiece.
The visitors were easily beaten in the first Test and they will be eager to get a stronghold on this game in the morning session tomorrow at Port Elizabeth.
