Rory Hamilton-Brown has announced his retirement from cricket at the age of 27 due to a wrist injury.

The Sussex all-rounder sustained the problem at the beginning of last season, and he has made just one appearance since then - in a Twenty20 match against Middlesex in June.

Having undergone surgery and rehabilitation in an attempt to rectify the damage, Hamilton-Brown has now been forced to call time on his 10-year career.

"I will leave the game with a heavy heart but many amazing memories and friends for life," he said in a statement. "I would like to thank my family for their care and support over the course of my career.

"I would also like to thank both Sussex and Surrey for giving me the chance to have the best job in the world for 10 years and all the coaches and staff that I have worked with along the way."

Hamilton-Brown, who has also previously captained Surrey, made his first-class debut in 2005 and went on to strike eight first-class centuries and 18 fifties.
