Mark Cavendish was involved in a collision during the third stage of the Giro d'Italia this afternoon.
The world champion, who was bidding to win back-to-back races, was unable to prevent his front wheel from being taken from beneath after Roberto Ferrari moved sharply into his path.
The incident also ended the stage for race leader Taylor Phinney, who has since confirmed that he has suffered no injuries.
British rider Cavendish is yet to pass comment on his condition.
