Alex Dowsett confirms he will try to regain hour record

Alex Dowsett insists that he can beat Sir Bradley Wiggins's hour record before he retires.

British cyclist Alex Dowsett has revealed that he will try to regain the hour record from Sir Bradley Wiggins.

The former Tour de France winner set a new record of 54.526km at Lea Valley VeloPark, beating Dowsett's mark by over 1.5km.

However, the 26-year-old is adamant that he can go further and plans to have a go at some stage in the future.

He told BBC Sport: "My record attempt was very well calculated and we only set out to break the record. If you go out too fast then you will suffer and pay for it later on. We ran a very conservative race and I could have gone faster.

"I would like to go back and see what I am capable of, whether that be next year or in eight years' time."

Dowsett set his record in Manchester last month.
