Swiss Cycling withdraw nomination of Pat McQuaid for ICU presidency

Swiss Cycling withdraw their nomination of Pat McQuaid to be given a third term as president on the International Cycling Union.

Swiss Cycling have confirmed that they have withdrawn their nomination of Pat McQuaid to be handed a third term as president of the International Cycling Union.

The Swiss resident was initially rejected by Cycling Ireland, but his hopes of clinching a third term were boosted when Swiss Cycling planned to nominate him before an arbitration board in Zurich on Thursday.

A statement from Swiss Cycling said: "The director of the Swiss Cycling committee returned to the decision of 13 May, 2013 concerning the appointment of Pat McQuaid and on Tuesday decided to withdraw the nomination of Pat McQuaid for his re-election as president of the UCI. Consequently, the arbitration requested by the three members of Swiss Cycling is cancelled, since there is no reason."

McQuaid was elected as UCI president in 2005.
