Scott Mitchell has recorded a thrilling 7-6 victory over Martin Adams to win the 2015 Lakeside title.
The 44-year-old, who had never previously progressed past the second round in the event, prevailed in a see-saw encounter to edge out the three-time winner in a deciding set.
Throughout the contest, neither player could establish more than a one-set advantage, but after the opening eight sets were shared, Mitchell appeared to hold the edge after moving into 5-4 and 6-5 leads.
However, after he missed one dart for the championship, Adams made it 6-6, but Mitchell regained the momentum at the start of the 13th set with a stunning 158 checkout.
That finish proved decisive and after Adams missed the bullseye for a 121 checkout in the fourth game of the last set, Mitchell returned to hit double 20 to claim the £100,000 first prize.
