Michael van Gerwen has moved closer to securing his place in the Premier Lesgue playoffs, despite suffering a defeat to Phil Taylor on Thursday evening in Aberdeen.
The PDC world champion lost 7-4 to Taylor in the second match of the night, but he returned to get the better of Adrian Lewis by the same scoreline, who has slipped down to sixth place in the standings.
The Stoke-on-Trent thrower also lost to Gary Anderson 7-4, despite threatening to fight back from 6-0 down after the Scot had missed a dart for the whitewash.
Raymond van Barneveld kept up the pressure on his Dutch compatriot Van Gerwen with a comprehensive 7-1 success over Robert Thornton, who has all but been eliminated from the tournament.
In the other match of the night, Dave Chisnall averaged in excess of 103 to record a 7-4 victory over Peter Wright, who remains in third place on leg difference from Taylor.
