The 19-year-old produced five solid rounds to reach a score of 373.10 and establish a significant gap between Australia's Matthew Mitcham, who sat second on 328.35 heading into the last dive.

Mitcham, 26, reached a total score of 404.85 following his final round, but it did little to stop Laugher from becoming Commonwealth champion as the youngster finished with 449.90 to seal first place.

It was a double for the Aussies, however, as Grant Nel claimed third on the podium, producing a six-dive total of 403.40 to secure the bronze.
