Italy's Alice Volpi wins the final of the women's individual foil to clinch the gold medal at the European Games with her victory over Yana Alborova.

Italy's Alice Volpi has clinched the gold medal in the women's individual foil at the European Games.

The 23-year-old narrowly defeated the Russian Federation's Adelina Zagidullina in the semi-finals 15-13 at Crystal Hall to reach the gold-medal match.

Volpi upped the level of her game in the final to claim a 15-11 win over Zagidullina's compatriot Yana Alborova to win the gold.

Alborova claimed the silver for her exploits in the event, while Zagidullina and Italy's Valentina Cipriani took the bronze medals.
