Sophie Troiano took to the piste after her teammate in the sword-fighting event, which led to a convincing 45-34 win following an overall struggle in the tournament from the British competitors.
The team are expected to face a tough test against Italy in the quarter-finals as they are the only team remaining that were not offered a bye into the knockout round.
