AC Milan director Umberto Gandini has said that he is "very proud" of the players for walking off the pitch because of racist chanting during a friendly match against Pro Patia this afternoon.
The move was instigated by Ghanaian star Kevin-Prince Boateng, who picked up the ball and kicked it towards fans heard chanting racial slurs directed at Milan's black players.
Boateng then led a mass walk-off as Pro Patia players attempted to reconcile the situation.
"It is so sad but we had to give a strong signal," Gandini told BBC Sport. "Very proud of all Milan players for their decision."
Coach Massimiliano Allegri also said that he was "saddened" by the situation.
