Preview: Accrington Stanley vs. Boreham Wood - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's FA Cup clash between Accrington Stanley and Boreham Wood, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Accrington Stanley and Boreham Wood will again lock horns in the FA Cup on Tuesday night, with the two teams bidding to book their spot in the fourth round of the competition.

The pair initially met on January 7 but could not be separated at the end of 90 minutes, with Lindokuhle Ndlovu cancelling out an opener from Accrington's Ryan Astley in Hertfordshire.

Accrington have won twice since the 1-1 draw with Boreham Wood on January 7, overcoming Lincoln City on penalties in the EFL Trophy before recording a 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers in League One on Saturday.

John Coleman's side are currently 19th in the League One table, boasting 25 points from their 24 matches, which has left them only one point outside of the relegation zone.

Accrington finished 12th in League One last season, and they have been present in the third tier since 2018, so it would be a big blow to be relegated to League Two for the 2023-24 campaign.

The Reds have another two league games to come before the end of the month, facing Barnsley and Plymouth Argyle - two teams currently in the top six, so they will be huge tests.

Accrington were last present in the fourth round of the FA Cup in 2018-19, when they were beaten by Derby County, and the hosts will enter Tuesday's replay as the favourites to progress.

Boreham Wood, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 1-1 draw with Notts County in the National League, which left them in 11th position in the table on 33 points.

The Wood will have taken a lot of confidence from their result against the league leaders, and it has left them just five points behind seventh-placed Dagenham & Redbridge on the same number of games (24).

Luke Garrard's side have drawn each of their last three matches 1-1, with their last victory coming at home to Oldham Athletic in the National League at the start of December.

Boreham Wood have had to win three games to advanced to this stage of the FA Cup, beating Wealdstone, Eastleigh and Bristol Rovers before the 1-1 draw with Accrington last time out.

The visitors are certainly up against it, as they prepare to face a team that plays two divisions higher, but the National League side showed their credentials last weekend.

Team News

Accrington could be without the services of Aaron Pressley for this match, as the 21-year-old was forced off in the 39th minute of the league game with Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Tommy Leigh could therefore come into the XI, which would likely see Sean McConville move into a forward area for the League One outfit.

Head coach Coleman is expected to again keep a 3-5-2 shape, with Rosaire Longelo-Mbule likely to start as the right-sided wing-back for the home team.

As for Boreham Wood, head coach Garrard is set to make changes to the side that started the league draw with Notts County last time out.

Daniel Newton could feature in the final third of the field alongside Ndlovu, while Dennon Lewis and Zak Brunt are also likely to come into the starting XI on Tuesday night.

However, the likes of George Broadbent and Cameron Coxe should retain their spots in the side.

Accrington Stanley possible starting lineup:
Savin; Astley, Conneely, Rodgers; Longelo-Mbule, Leigh, Coyle, Martin, Hamilton; McConville, Whalley

Boreham Wood possible starting lineup:
Ashmore; Agbontohoma, Evans, Ilesanmi; Coxe, Broadbent, Payne, Lewis; Ndlovu, Brunt, Newton

We say: Accrington Stanley 2-1 Boreham Wood

Boreham Wood did brilliantly in the first match between the two sides, and are expecting Tuesday's game to be another close affair. Accrington boss Coleman will be able to call upon the greater quality, though, and we are backing the League One side to progress to the fourth round of the competition.
