Glenn Hoddle: 'Arsenal need to strengthen squad'

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle says that Arsenal need to sign another holding midfield player before the transfer window slams shut on September 1.

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle believes that Arsenal must strengthen their squad in the transfer market, with a holding midfielder the main priority.

The Gunners rescued a point late on in a 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park this evening.

It follows on from the slender victory against Crystal Palace last weekend, and the goalless draw with Besiktas in the Champions League in midweek, which Hoddle says highlights Arsenal's frailties.

"They've got enough going forward, fabulous midfield players and Giroud with Sanchez or whatever. That's not a problem," the former Tottenham Hotspur coach, who is now working as part of Queens Park Rangers's backroom staff, told Sky Sports News.

"In a perfect world I would look for a real holding midfield player that can be his fourth centre-half, a player who can sit in the centre of midfield, but if you need a fourth centre-half then he can slip in there and play that role."

Arsenal signed forward Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona earlier this summer, for a fee in the region of £30m.
