Brentford forward Ivan Toney is reportedly willing to let his contract run down amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney is reportedly prepared to run down his contract amid links with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Toney has racked up 72 goals and 23 assists in 141 appearances since joining the Bees from Peterborough United in the summer of 2020.

The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from the West London club when he returned from an eight-month betting ban in January.

However, a winter move failed to materialise and Toney remained with Brentford for the second half of the campaign, scoring four goals in five Premier League matches before failing to find the net in his final 12 top-flight appearances of the season.

Toney subsequently joined up with the England squad for Euro 2024, where he made an important contribution by providing an assist for the winner against Slovakia and scoring a penalty in the shootout win against Switzerland.

Toney willing to leave on free transfer

As the focus shifts towards the new season, there is currently uncertainty about where Toney will be plying his trade for the 2024-25 campaign.

The current window represents one final chance for Brentford to demand a respectable fee, with the striker's contract set to expire next summer.

However, according to talkSPORT, the England international is willing to run down his contract and leave on a free transfer if he fails to secure a big move this summer.

The report claims that Arsenal were considering a £60m move, but they are seemingly reluctant to submit an official bid.

Could Tottenham swoop in for Toney?

While Arsenal are unlikely to make an offer this summer, there is still a possibility that Toney could complete a switch to North London.

Arsenal's local rivals Tottenham have been linked with a potential move as they look to find a forward to fill the void left by Harry Kane's departure last summer.

Toney is hoping that Spurs step up their interest with a firm bid, while the striker is also believed to be attracting interest from West Ham United and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

As per The Athletic, Brentford would prefer to sell Toney this summer rather than run the risk of losing him for nothing next year.

However, they will only sanction his departure if they receive a bid which fairly reflects the player's market value.
