The visitors raced into a two-goal lead as Didier Ndong opened the scoring with a ferocious shot into the top-left corner in the 12th minute.
Just six minutes later Romain Philippoteaux sliced the Monaco defence open with a through-ball to Benjamin Jeannot, who was left with the simple task of poking home from six yards out.
The deficit was halved moments later, however, as Almamy Toure leaped into the air to head a corner kick into the back of the net in the 21st minute.

Monaco were then level two minutes after the restart through Thomas Lemar, whose thumping shot into the top corner left goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte stranded.
Lorient, however, would have the final say as they scored what proved to be the winner just before the hour, as a counter-attack led by Yann Jouffre was ultimately converted by Benjamin Moukandjo.
The result means that Monaco remain winless at home and sit 11th in the Ligue 1 table, a place below Lorient.
