Paul Lambert: 'Fabian Delph champing at the bit'

Paul Lambert says that Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph is "itching" to return to first-team duties from a dislocated shoulder.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has revealed that Fabian Delph is progressing well in his comeback from injury.

The 25-year-old was ruled out for two months after suffering a dislocated shoulder in October, and Lambert says that the combative midfielder is champing at the bit to return.

"Fabian is doing well in his rehab but is a few weeks away," the Scot told Villa's official website. "The frustrating thing is that his fitness will still be good. It's just the actual contact he won't be able to do.

"He can't have contact because of the shoulder so he's doing gym work and work with the physios. I can't put a timeframe on his return but we will want him back as soon as we can.

"Fabian will know himself and be ready. He will be itching to get back in."

The England international had made seven Premier League appearances this season prior to his injury.
