Diego Simeone eyes Bayern Munich scalp

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone sets his sights on picking up a first-leg victory over Bayern Munich in their Champions League semi-final.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has set his sights on beating Bayern Munich when they welcome the German giants to the Vicente Calderon for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night.

Atleti have already knocked out reigning champions Barcelona in the last round, and must now overcome the new favourites if they are to reach the final for the second time in three seasons.

Simeone acknowledged that there would be a clash of styles between the two teams, but insists that his side will be going for the win in the Spanish capital.

"We have to be thinking about one thing: winning. I am expecting a hard match against an opponent with a lot of attacking potential, against a coach who changes from game to game," he told reporters.

"We will try to take the game into our hands where and when we can. Obviously we have a coach and players with different characteristics [from Bayern], but in wars, it isn't the side with the most soldiers that wins, rather the side that uses its soldiers better.

"They are in the same position as us - and to win the league you have to win games. I want my side to win, nothing more."

Atletico also reached the final of the competition in 2014, when they were beaten by city rivals Real Madrid after extra time.
