Javier Mascherano's club Barcelona say that they will appeal his sending off against Deportivo La Coruna.

Barcelona have confirmed that they intend to appeal the red card that Javier Mascherano received during Saturday's 5-4 victory over Deportivo La Coruna.

The Argentine was handed two cautions by referee Paradas Romero, who indicated in his post-match report that Mascherano was guilty of "knocking down an opponent while disputing the ball" on both occasions.

However, the Spanish club do not agree with the verdict and have informed the Spanish Football Federation that they are planning to challenge to decision.

The outcome of their appeal is likely to be revealed later this week.
