Former Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi is reportedly still owed £33m by the Catalan giants in loyalty bonuses.
After trying and failing to force a move away from Camp Nou last year, Messi remained at Barcelona for the 2020-21 campaign and was on the brink of signing a new deal following positive discussions with Joan Laporta.
However, financial obstacles prevented the six-time Ballon d'Or winner from staying on in La Liga, and he has since completed a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
According to El Espanol, La Blaugrana must still honour the loyalty bonus in Messi's previous contract, with two payments totalling £66m in total.
The report states that Laporta intended to have the money paid in two instalments in June 2020 and June 2021, but the Catalans' volatile financial situation means that Messi is still waiting for a large chunk of the bonus.
Messi - who is thought to be earning £29.6m a year at the Parc des Princes - left Barcelona after winning 10 La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues with the club.
