Dieter Hecking admits that Bayern Munich's ruthlessness in attack proved too much for Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking has admitted that his side had no answer to Bayern Munich's ruthlessness during their DFB-Pokal semi-final at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

The Wolves lost the match 6-1 in Munich, with striker Mario Gomez scoring a late hat-trick.

"After losing 6-1, you have to lower your sights for a time," Hecking told reporters on Tuesday. "We actually did plenty of things right tonight, but at the end of the day you're confronted by the result.

"Obviously it's not to our taste, but we have to accept it. We did many things really well, especially in the first half. We had chances, but if so, you've got to put them away.

"I'm gutted we were hit on the break for three of the first four goals. But Bayern are ruthless and it's hard to defend against that. What remains is the 6-1 scoreline, two or three goals too many in my opinion."

The other semi-final is between Stuttgart and Freiburg and it will be played out on Wednesday.
