Birmingham City report missing £2.5m to police

Birmingham City's parent company Birmingham International Holdings reports to police that over £2.5m could have been "misappropriated" by a former employee.

Birmingham City's parent company has called in police after it discovered that over £2.5m may have been "misappropriated" by a former employee.

The board of Birmingham International Holdings released a statement saying that the money could have been missing for over a year and might affect their "financial situation".

It read: "The board has recently discovered that as at the date of this announcement a former employee of the company may have misappropriated a sum of at least HK$30m belonging to the group since December 2013.

"On a preliminary review, the board considers that the suspected misappropriation may have a material impact on the operation and financial situation of the group."

Despite their off-field ownership issues, Birmingham have climbed into the top half of the Championship following a run of six wins in nine games under Gary Rowett.
