Former Burnley player and manager Jimmy Adamson has died at the age of 82, the Lancashire club confirmed earlier today.
Adamson spent his entire playing career with the Clarets, making 486 appearances over 17 years.
He also spent six years as Burnley boss, leading them to promotion from Division Two in 1973 before going on to take charge of Leeds and Sunderland.
Adamson acted as England manager Walter Winterbottom's assistant during the 1962 World Cup in Chile, before passing up the opportunity to take over the national team when Winterbottom departed the role.
Instead, Sir Alf Ramsey became the new manager and guided England to World Cup glory four years later.
The former Burnley captain leaves five grandchildren Jenny, Katie, Sarah, James and Sam.
