Preview: Burnley vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Premier League clash between Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Burnley will be bidding to build on their impressive result against Chelsea when they continue their Premier League campaign at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

The Clarets picked up a point in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, while Wolves will enter the contest off the back of a 2-0 defeat at top-four hopefuls Aston Villa.

There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a tough campaign for Burnley, but the Clarets are showing fight at a vital stage of the season, picking up five points from their last three league fixtures.

Vincent Kompany's side drew 2-2 at West Ham United on March 10 before recording a 2-1 victory over Brentford before the international break to secure their first league success since the end of December.

Burnley were then in action against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and they twice came from behind to secure a point in a 2-2 draw, with the result proving to be even more impressive considering that Lorenz Assignon was sent off in the latter stages of the first period.

Kompany was also shown a red card for his protests against the penalty decision and resulting red card, so the former Manchester City captain will not be on the touchline for Burnley on Tuesday night.

The Clarets are currently 19th in the table, four points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, and there is still plenty of football to be played before the end of the campaign.

Wolves, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 2-0 loss at Villa on Saturday; Moussa Diaby made the breakthrough in the 36th minute of the contest, before Ezri Konsa netted a second in the 65th minute.

Gary O'Neil's side were also beaten 3-2 by Coventry City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup before the international break, so it has been an unhappy couple of weeks for the club, who will enter this contest off the back of a run of three losses from their last four matches.

Wolves are 10th in the table, boasting a record of 12 wins, five draws and 12 defeats from 29 matches to collect 41 points, one point ahead of 11th-placed Chelsea heading into the next set of fixtures.

O'Neil's team recorded a 1-0 win over Burnley in the reverse match earlier this season, but the Clarets have enjoyed the best of the recent meetings, winning four of their last eight encounters and suffering just one defeat in the process.

Recent injuries to Matheus Cunha, Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto have harmed Wolves, with the club's three most influential attackers currently on the sidelines, and the team will be bidding to avoid a ninth away league loss of the campaign on Tuesday night.

Team News

Burnley will again be missing Aaron Ramsey, Nathan Redmond, Luca Koleosho, Jordan Beyer and Ameen Al-Dakhil on Tuesday evening through injury.

Assignon, meanwhile, is suspended following his red card against Chelsea, but there will be a return at centre-forward for David Datro Fofana, who was unable to face his parent club.

Fofana has scored four times in the Premier League since arriving on loan at Burnley in January, and he could be joined in the final third of the field by Lyle Foster, who caused Chelsea problems on Saturday.

As for Wolves, Neto and Hwang will again be unavailable for selection, while Craig Dawson, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Cunha remain injury doubts.

Leon Chiwome made his first Premier League start against Villa, and the 18-year-old could keep his spot in the final third of the field if Cunha is unable to recover for Tuesday's clash.

Injuries have harmed Wolves in recent weeks, and there are unlikely to be many changes for this match, with Pablo Sarabia again set to feature in a wide area, while there could be an advanced role for Mario Lemina.

Burnley possible starting lineup:
Muric; Taylor, O'Shea, Esteve, Vitinho; Larsen, Cullen, Berge, Odobert; Fofana, Foster

Wolverhampton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Sa; S Bueno, Kilman, T Gomes; Semedo, J Gomes, Doyle, Ait-Nouri; Sarabia, Chiwome, Lemina

We say: Burnley 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

A full-strength Wolves would fancy their chances of securing all three points on Tuesday night, but the visitors are again set to be without some key players. Burnley were excellent against Chelsea on Saturday, and we are tipping the Clarets to secure a vital three points in front of their own supporters.
