Tottenham Hotspur's defensive crisis should reportedly be eased before Sunday's visit of Chelsea as Davinson Sanchez and Cristian Romero prepare to travel back to the UK.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to be handed a double defensive boost ahead of Sunday's Premier League encounter with Chelsea.

Nuno Espirito Santo's centre-backs endured a torrid afternoon against Crystal Palace last weekend, with strikes from Wilfried Zaha and Odsonne Edouard (two) condemning the North London side to a first defeat of the league season.

During the game at Selhurst Park, Eric Dier was forced off injured while Japhet Tanganga was given his marching orders for two yellow cards, as Davinson Sanchez and Cristian Romero remained unavailable due to quarantine.

However, the Daily Mail reports that Sanchez and Romero - along with fellow South American Giovani Lo Celso - will all return to England in time to face the Blues, although they will only have 24 hours to settle back in.

The report adds that Dier could still make the cut as well, while Joe Rodon is another option in defence if Romero and Sanchez are not deemed ready to be thrown back into action.

Spurs will face Rennes in Thursday's Europa Conference League clash before taking on Chelsea, and Tanganga will be available for that encounter before sitting out Sunday's game through suspension.
