Enzo Fernandez returns to the Chelsea XI for the EFL Cup quarter-final tie against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

Enzo Fernandez has returned to the Chelsea XI for Tuesday's EFL Cup quarter-final tie against Newcastle United.

The World Cup winner was a surprise absentee from the team that started versus Sheffield United at the weekend as Mauricio Pochettino opted for a more attack-minded lineup.

However, the Argentina international is named for the encounter against the Magpies, replacing Mykhaylo Mudryk in what is the only change.

Pochettino had the option of bringing the likes of Malo Gusto and Ian Maatsen in at full-back, or Armando Broja in attack, but he has opted for continuity over fresh legs.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe has made three alterations to the Newcastle starting lineup from the win over Fulham.

Fabian Schar and Joelinton both miss out with injuries sustained during that fixture, while Dan Burn is not risked from the start after coming through 84 minutes after a recent back injury.

Emil Krafth comes in for a rare start at right-back, while Sven Botman also makes his first start after a number of months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Teenage midfielder Lewis Miley returns to the side, but Kieran Trippier is only named on the substitutes' bench despite serving a one-match ban at the weekend.

Chelsea: Petrovic; Disasi, Silva, Badiashile, Colwill; Caicedo, Fernandez, Gallagher; Palmer, Jackson, Sterling

Subs: Bettinelli, Bergstrom, Gilchrist, Gusto, Maatsen, Mudryk, Matos, Nkunku, Broja

Newcastle United: Dubravka; Krafth, Lascelles, Botman, Livramento; Guimaraes, Longstaff, Miley; Almiron, Wilson, Gordon

Subs: Karius, Gillespie, Trippier, Dummett, Ritchie, Hall, Burn, A. Murphy
