Ipswich Town vs. Chelsea: Visitors bidding to end Premier League streak at Portman Road

Chelsea will be out to end a Premier League streak when they square off against Ipswich Town on Monday night.

Chelsea will be hoping to end a Premier League streak when they face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Monday night.

The Blues make the trip to East Anglia on the back of having suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West London neighbours Fulham.

As a result, Enzo Maresca's team have dropped to third place in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

On a positive note, Chelsea will travel to Ipswich in possession of the best away record in the Premier League, accumulating 20 points from their nine such fixtures.

Nevertheless, if Chelsea are to improve on that run, they will have to end a Premier League streak against this opponent.

How have Chelsea fared at Portman Road?

These two teams will be squaring off in a Premier League fixture at Portman Road for just the sixth time and for the first time since 2002.

During those five previous such meetings, Chelsea have failed to post a single win, the most away games that they have played against a single opponent in this competition without success.

All but one of the contests have ended in draws, Ipswich's solitary success coming in 1993 when Ian Marshall scored the only goal of the game.

That is the only time that Ipswich have registered a victory over Chelsea in their last 19 fixtures in all tournaments.

Just two games have taken place in domestic cup competitions across the past 22 years, Chelsea scoring 10 times across FA Cup ties in 2009 and 2011.

Ipswich bidding to avoid club record

Should Ipswich fail to emerge victorious from this encounter, it will equal an unwanted club record of no wins coming from their opening 10 games at the start of the season.

Furthermore, Ipswich would become just the fifth team in Premier League history to reach double figures in games without a home win in the Premier League.

Chelsea are hoping to extend their unbeaten record in final matches of a calendar to 13 years, their most recent such defeat coming to Aston Villa in 2011.
