Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella reveals that he is interested in returning to Barcelona later in his career.

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has revealed that he would "value" a future return to Barcelona.

During the summer transfer window, Chelsea agreed to pay Brighton & Hove Albion a fee which could reportedly rise to £62m in order to secure the services of the left-sided player.

The 24-year-old has since made 14 starts and four substitute appearances for the Blues and is currently regarded as first choice due to a hamstring injury sustained by Ben Chilwell.

However, it appears that Cucurella has aspirations to spend another spell at Barcelona at some point in his career having come through the La Masia academy.

Despite his rise to prominence in recent seasons, Cucurella played just one game for Barcelona during his eight years tied to the Catalan giants.

His sole outing came as a late substitute during a Copa del Rey tie against Real Murcia, his transition to senior football instead being spent at Eibar and Getafe.

Failure to make his mark in his first stint at Barcelona has seemingly stuck with Cucurella, who admits that he would like another chance at hometown club.

Speaking to Cat Radio, Cucurella said: "I didn't have the chance and I've always had a thorn in my side. In the end, if I had the chance in the future [to return to Barca] I would value it, but it would be very nice.

"It has not been easy to get here, I have had to overcome many obstacles. The most important thing is that I have never given up, I have always kept working and this year I got the prize I was looking for."

There is little to no chance of Cucurella being deemed as a transfer target by Barcelona in the foreseeable future due to their respective situations.

Cucurella penned a six-year contract with Chelsea earlier this year and his club would demand a similar fee to what they paid the Seagulls for his signature.

Furthermore, Barcelona are not in a position to spend that amount of money, particularly on a left-back when they already have options in that area of the pitch.

Although Jordi Alba and Marcos Alonso are the wrong side of 30, youngster Alex Balde is regarded as Barcelona's future long-term option in that role.

The current La Liga leaders allegedly hope to agree a contract extension with the prospect once he has returned from representing Spain at the World Cup.
