Crystal Palace edge out Swansea with Marouane Chamakh goal

Crystal Palace secure a 1-0 win over Swansea City on the final day of the season thanks to a goal in the second half from Marouane Chamakh.

A second-half goal from Marouane Chamakh has handed Crystal Palace a 1-0 win over Swansea City on the final day of the Premier League season.

Palace pressed in the early stages as Wilfried Zaha raided forward down the left and cut the ball back to Jason Puncheon on the edge of the box. The winger weighed up his options before firing an effort at goal, but his strike went just over the bar.

The visitors created an opening when Jefferson Montero lifted a corner in from the left and Jack Cork rose highest in the area to head at goal, but his effort was straight at Wayne Hennessey.

Yannick Bolasie raided down the left as he tried to give the Eagles a spark, and the winger was allowed space to cut inside to fire a strike at goal, although Lukasz Fabianski was able to make a comfortable save.

In the second half, Palace took the lead as Chamakh controlled a long ball forward from Scott Dann and buried an effort past Fabianski from close range.

The Eagles had a decent opportunity to double their lead when a cross from the right from Bolasie found the run of Mile Jedinak in the box, but the midfielder's header was straight at Fabianski.

Zaha provided a threat down the left as he weaved his way in and out of challenges before drilling an effort low towards the bottom corner, only to see the ball smash into the side-netting.

Puncheon came close to adding a second for the home side, but Chamakh's goal proved to be enough to hand them the victory.
