Everton captain Phil Neville has reportedly been placed as a contender for the managerial post at Goodison Park if current boss David Moyes makes the switch to Manchester United.
Widespread reports have suggested that Moyes is poised to take the hotseat at Old Trafford following yesterday's announcement that Sir Alex Ferguson will retire at the end of the season.
While Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has been named as the favourite to move to Merseyside, it is understood that the club would consider appointing Neville if they fail to clinch the Spaniard's signature, according to the Daily Mail.
Neville, who plans to leave the club as a player in the summer, has maintained that he wants to prolong his career, but reports have suggested that if Moyes moves to Old Trafford he may take the ex-United player with him.
Meanwhile, Celtic boss Neil Lennon and Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup have been touted as possible contenders for the role.
