Williams: 'Everton not safe from relegation'

Everton defender Ashley Williams admits that the Toffees will find themselves in a relegation battle if they do not end their recent winless streak.

Everton defender Ashley Williams has admitted that the Toffees cannot afford to continue their winless run in the Premier League.

The Toffees have registered just three points from six matches in the top flight since December 23, with the period leaving the club just six points above the relegation zone in the standings.

Saturday's 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion stopped a run of three successive defeats, but Williams has acknowledged that the Merseyside outfit must find a way of getting another victory on the board.

The 33-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "It's not good. The gaffer said he wanted a result to stop the losing streak [of four matches] so we did that but it's not good reading.

"We need to win games and when teams are below us in the league, especially at home, they are the type of games you want to win. If you don't perform for periods of the season you're going to find yourself down there.

"Obviously with the results we have been getting we have started to slip the other way that you don't want to be going."

Everton are next in action when they host Leicester City on January 31.
