Luke Varney signs short-term Ipswich Town deal

Luke Varney signs a six-month contract with Ipswich Town after fully recovering from an injury which he suffered while on loan with the club last season.

Ipswich Town have announced the signing of Luke Varney on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old finished last season on loan at Ipswich from Blackburn Rovers but saw his playing time cut short when he suffered a serious Achilles injury in the first leg of the playoff semi-final against Norwich City.

Varney's Blackburn contract expired in the summer and Ipswich have been helping him with his rehabilitation in Suffolk since.

Now that he has returned to full fitness, Ipswich have offered him a six-month contract until the end of the season and he could return to the squad in tomorrow's clash against fellow promotion hopefuls Derby County.

Varney's arrival will help Ipswich maintain their strength in depth in attack, with David McGoldrick set for a spell on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring in training.
