Chris Wood snatches win for Leeds United

Chris Wood scores two minutes from time to secure a 2-1 win for Leeds United against Derby County.

Leeds United beat Derby County 2-1 at the iPro Stadium in the day's early Championship kickoff thanks to Chris Wood's dramatic late winner.

There was little goalmouth action at either end in the opening half hour, as neither side registered a single shot on target.

Chris Martin had an effort from Johnny Russell's cross blocked, then headed a Russell free kick wide of goal as the first half wore on.

However, Leeds took the lead just before the break when Tom Adeyemi headed home Stuart Dallas's cross from close range, though the home side were aggrieved by the decision to award Leeds a controversial corner in the build-up to the goal.

Derby were level just three minutes after the restart when Martin created some space for himself on the edge of the Leeds box and fired an effort into the bottom corner for his 50th Derby County goal.

Jeff Hendrick then spurned a chance to put his side ahead when he fired over the top of goal from inside the area.

Substitute Andreas Weimann was then sent clear only to see his effort blocked by Liam Cooper, before Wood headed Mirko Antenucci's teasing back post cross over from six yards out.

Wood then made amends for his miss when he hammered home a strike from the edge of the area two minutes from time to secure all three points for Uwe Rosler's side.

Ahead of today's 3pm kickoffs, the result sees Leeds leapfrog Derby into 11th in the Championship table.
