Klopp: 'Liverpool will not prioritise PL'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists that he will not prioritise winning the Premier League title this season, despite the club holding an advantage over Manchester City.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that the club will push to win a Premier League and Champions League double this season.

The Merseyside giants have not won the top-flight title since 1990, but Klopp's side currently hold a two-point advantage in first place ahead of their game in hand against West Ham United on Monday night.

Liverpool also face a Champions League double-header with Bayern Munich in the coming weeks, but Klopp has insisted that he will not prioritise domestic success over a prolonged run in Europe.

The German is quoted by The Guardian as saying: "We will try for sure. That is what we tried last year. There was the discussion this year when people said we should focus only on the league so now we are still in the Champions League and I am quite happy about it.

"We have a very difficult game yet listening to some people it seems we are already through because 'It's only Bayern Munich'. Have you looked at the team they have or how they are in shape now after the winter break?

"We will be ready for the Champions League and a very, very tough game. This is the Champions League – one game and then two weeks before we play them again. We always play the league and the Champions League is then a little sweet in between and we will go for it with all we have. That is normal."

Liverpool's efforts will be aided after an early elimination from the FA Cup.
